Sean is originally from Shelby Township Michigan. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Hope College. While at Hope he conducted research under the guidance of Professor Jason Gillmore. His research focused on the synthesis and characterization of novel azo dye monomers towards applications in photomechanical polymers. After obtaining his BS in 2018 Sean moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he conducted his doctoral research in Professor AJ Boydston’s lab. Sean’s doctoral work focused on developing new approaches to polymer synthesis with an emphasis on metal-free ring-opening metathesis polymerization (MF-ROMP). Sean completed his PhD in March 2024 and escaped the cold for the first time by joining the Evans and Sumerlin research groups at the University of Florida. Outside of the lab he enjoys most outdoor activities, reading a good book, and the occasional video game.
